Leather Bandolier
British
Pattern 1903 Bandolier
The bandolier is made of brown leather with five 10-round pockets in the front. There are brass buckles for regulating the size and a strap for securing the lower end of the bandolier to the waistbelt.
The 1903 Bandolier Equipment was originally designed to replace the Slade-Wallace equipment which had proven inadequate during the Boer War. It, in turn, was replaced by the 1908 Pattern Web gear, resulting in an actual inservice life for the pattern of only five years.
However, the bandolier itself was kept in use for another 40 years in mounted service, and can often be seen in pictures, including those of the notorious Black & Tans in the Irish conflict.
