EPISODE IV: A NEW HOPE
Used by: Dathcha (the Jawa
that blasts R2-D2)
This Jawa ion blaster was made from a Lee-Enfield No. 1 Mark 3
rifle. The .303 British rifle was originally used during WWII.
For the blaster prop, most of the wooden front section was cut
off and the barrel was shortened. The rifle buttstock was also
severely cut down sanded and stained a lighter color.
Added to the front of the barrel is the grenade launcher attachment for the rifle shown here.
At the end of the rifle there is a black cord or hose mounted in a hole drilled in the buttstock. This attaches to a canister with brass details covered in leather which is an antique gun powder flask. There is a thin leather strap attached to the side of this flask that was slung over the Jawa's shoulder.
